On Thursday, March 5, MEP Eva Paunova (GERB/EPP Group) participated in the EPP Group Bureau meeting in Toledo, Spain. At the meeting EPP Group MEPs worked on the EPP Group strategy on the Digital Economy in Europe and the completion of the Digital Single Market in the EU. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of Spain Mariano Rajoy, the EPP Group President Manfred Weber and the Commissioner for the Internal Market Elzbieta Bienkowska.
EPP Group MEPs outlined the main legislative areas that require timely action – update of the copyright system, completion of the single telecoms market in the EU, introduction of net neutrality and more e-public services. According to the Bulgarian MEP, eGovernment is the key to further development of the sector, because one cannot expect businesses to be digital, when administrations are not there yet.
The EPP Group is the largest political group in the EP and the main driving force for the completion of one of the priority projects of the EU at the moment – the Digital Single Market. The goal is that Europe becomes a world leader in the field of information technologies and online business. The USA and Asia are the market leaders at the moment, why do not we have the next leader from Europe, or maybe even from Bulgaria, commented Eva Paunova.
