А country full of happy people who are proud of their heritage

The first conference, attended by Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva, Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova and Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov, and EPP’s General Secretary Antonio Lopez-Isturiz White, took place on the 16th of March 2015. In her opening remarks to a hundred-strong audience, Eva Maydell spoke about the need for prominent examples of successful Bulgarians and how national pride should not only be taken in Bulgaria’s past, but also in its present.

Ms Georgieva speech made a similar point: ‘I would like to see Bulgaria be a country full of happy people who are proud of their heritage and who always buy a return ticket when travelling abroad’.

The following year the conference was even more popular, with over 150 attendees coming together to explore subjects of innovation, education and e-skills, and how they can transform Bulgaria into a ‘Digital Leader of the Future’.

The event began with a working breakfast part of Forbes Magazine’s 30under30 project, during which over 30 young professionals from the European Institutions has the opportunity to meet and receive valuable advice from two of the most successful Bulgarians working today – Teach for Bulgaria CEO Evgenia Peeva and Melissa Climate founder Lubomir Yanchev.

‘Without highly-qualified young people willing to put the work in to develop their country, we wouldn’t be able to encourage entrepreneurship, introduce innovative business models or hold on to our position as a regional leader. A positive economic outlook results in higher living standards, which in turn stimulate investment in both business and our families and personal lives’ said Eva Maydell, introducing the event’s main panel discussion. Speakers included Commissioner Georgieva, Musala Soft President Elena Marinova, Social Entrepreneur and Education Without Backpacks founder Ivan Gospodinov, the creator of BulgarianHistory.Org Ivan Kanchev and Start It Smart executive Nikola Yanev.
