Since July 2014 I represent Bulgaria’s GERB and the European People’s Party in the European Parliament. In the current Parliamentary term I am a member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (IMCO) and the trade delegations to Japan and the United States. Also, I am a substitute member on the Committee for Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). Since July 2019 I serve as the Coordinator of the Young Members’ Network of the EPP Group.
My work focuses on three main priorities: improving the quality of education for young people, creating opportunities for entrepreneurs and promoting technology and digitalization. I pursue them relentlessly – in and out of Parliament, in Bulgaria, Brussels, Strasbourg and across Europe.
I support the legislative work on the Strategy for the Single Digital Market and the European Fund for Strategic Investment (EFSI), an important component of the Juncker plan for infrastructure investment, as well as championing skills development for the demands of the 21st century labour market and the technological innovation in financial services.
I see the three tenets of my representation to be inexorably linked – Europe’s most valuable resource is its highly-qualified population. Quality education results in active and progressive citizens, who, in turn, drive economic development. A friendlier regulatory environment, in turn, supports entrepreneurs of all levels to become more competitive and create jobs. Finally, technology accelerates these processes and expands the limits of economic opportunity.
In order to ensure my work has a tangible, real-world impact, I seek to actively collaborate with partners across Europe on specific projects: the Education Bulgaria 2030 network, EU Code Week and the upcoming Invest BG Tour being prime examples. More information about two recent conferences I was involved in – My Dream for Bulgaria and #Regulation4Innovation – can be found here.
None of this would be possible without the help and support of Europe’s over 500 million citizens. I believe in our collective potential to face any challenge thrown at us, as long as we do it together.
I would like to thank my team and my various partners. Your confidence and ideas never fail to inspire and motivate me.
Yours,
Eva Maydell
