“The real challenge ahead of us is not only the COVID-19 pandemic, I am sure we will prevail. It is not the economic crisis, we will withstand and recover. The biggest challenge is retaining and promoting our shared European values. This will be my main mission during my new mandate as President of the European Movement International. Thank you to the more than 60 European Movement National Councils and International Associations, including major European political parties, and business organisations, social, and civic forces for your support,” said Eva Maydell MEP after her re-election as President as President of the European Movement International on November 19, 2020.
The European Movement is the largest pan-European network of pro-European organisations. Eva Maydell is its first female chairman and the first Eastern European. Founded 70 years ago, it is now present in 34 countries and encompasses 38 International Associations, bringing together European civil society, business, trade unions, NGOs, political parties, local authorities and academia. Today, European citizens are at the heart of the European Movement International’s work. By offering thought leadership on the issues that confront them, involving them in the debates on our Union’s future, and influencing policymakers on their behalf, we strive for an open, inclusive, transparent, and united Europe.
“Over the past three years, we have managed to get the European movement back at the center of talks on the future of the EU, on the Green Deal and jobs, on migration and relations with the United States of America and China. Our network is the place where individual citizens, businesses, civil society organizations can be part of and influence discussions on major topics on the European agenda. Structures such as the European Movement support European integration and reinforce a sense of common goals, values and interests between European societies, ”added Eva Maydell , who was elected by an absolute majority by the organization’s members.
